  • A poor Wheel of Time copy

    By Jim Yeats
The first book was reasonably entertaining but started to tail off towards the end. This book continues that and really ramps up the vaguely chaotic jumps in character perspective, information, and flow. You also start to really see the almost direct copy of major features from The Wheel of Time. The biggest problem for me is just the lack of world building and structure, and overall cohesiveness of the storyline. Otherwise it does have an interesting plot, just not enough time or world building to see it through.
  • A step down

I really enjoyed the first book but unfortunately this book didn’t do it for me. Personally, I’m not a big fan of dream/memory sequences and it felt like half the book was a memory and I just found it boring. None of the intrigue from the first book was really here
  • So so so good

I just finished the Licanius trilogy and James Islington is now one of my new favorite authors. So very well done, fairly unique as fantasy novels go and entertaining start to finish. Many great series I’ve read recently are amazing until the end. This one is amazing start to finish!

    Great read. Definitely recommend.
  • Pretty good. Better than the first novel. Still...

The novel drags at times, keeping it from anything that I would call a page-turner. I mostly enjoyed reading it, though. My rating system: 5 stars are reserved for books that totally blow me away, or classics that I believe would have when they were new. I don’t give too many of these out, because it’s the highest rating that you could ever possibly give any book on here. 4 stars for books that I would recommend to just about anyone, or, at least, to someone who doesn’t dislike the genre. 3 stars for books that I would only recommend to someone who is fond of the genre. 2 stars for books that I would be hesitant to recommend to anyone at all, but the book was not a total disaster. 1 star for books that I found so terribly ridiculous, or poorly written, that I wish I had not spent time reading to begin with.
  • Enjoyable Reading

As a huge fan of Terry Brooks and Robert Jordan, this first book ranks right up there and I’m excited to get into the next one right after work today!

    Mediocre young adult fiction.
