An important book to read especially as racism continues to rear its ugly head in America.

One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. So many emotions while reading…. And these events definitely happened…. This author is blessed and extremely gifted. I loved the ending and I know this story still stick with me for a long time to come.
  • Haunting Tale

I enjoyed this read. It is a dedication to her great-uncle who actually died at a reformatory and all those who suffered injustice at the hands of Jim Crow in Florida. I liked the way she incorporated historical figures like Harry T. Moore and Ruby McCollum into the story. I had never heard of them until reading this book. Black history is so expansive and deep. What I found most interesting about this story is that it is categorized as horror but it’s not the horror you might expect. There are ghosts but the horror/evil is from humanity not the ghosts.
  • Harrowing

I have so many emotions on this one. I would classify this more as a historical fiction rather than a thriller/horror novel but there are absolutely creepy and upsetting moments. This is an incredibly harrowing tale that at times really pulled on my heart strings. The story is well written and the author does a fantastic job with imagery. The novel is pretty lengthy and at times I felt rambled on, but can appreciate the author’s intricate details. The last 2 sections and the ending really pulled this together for me. Definitely worth a read.

It is truly shocking, the stories that reflect history. I’m grateful this is fiction and sad to know it is inspired by fact. This read was really important. A form of entertainment that will keep you thinking for days to come.
